Dependency Walker - useful troubleshooting tool?
I found the following "Dependency Walker" tool in the Win98 Resource
Kit: ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Services/Tec...SE/DEPENDS.EXE ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Services/Tec...SE/DEPENDS.HLP ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Services/Tec...SE/DEPENDS.CNT It produces a tree diagram of module dependencies (eg DLLs) for any executable file. The following info is from the help file: ================================================== ================== [Dependency Walker] detects missing files. These are files that are required as a dependency to another module. A symptom of this problem is the "The dynamic link library BAR.DLL could not be found in the specified path..." error. [Dependency Walker] detects mismatched machine types of modules. This occurs if a module built for one type of machine tries to load a module built for a different type of machine. ================================================== ================== Using Dependency Walker for General Information about Modules ------------------------------------------------------------- Dependency Walker is more than just a trouble shooting utility. It also provides a great deal of valuable information about the module layout of a particular application and details on each module. Dependency Walker provides the following information: A complete module dependency tree diagram of all the modules required by a particular application. A comprehensive list of all functions exported for each module. These lists include functions exported by name, functions exported by ordinal, and functions that are actually forwarded to other modules. A list of functions that are actually called in each module by other modules. These lists can help developers understand why a particular module is being linked with an application, and also provides information on how to remove unneeded modules from being dependencies. A complete list of the minimum set of files that are required in order for the application to run or DLL to load. This list can be very useful when copying files to another machine or creating setup scripts. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

Dependency Walker - useful troubleshooting tool?

put finger to keyboard and composed: Cool tool, but how do I remove it from my right click menu? Sorry, I didn't notice that this was happening. I can't see any way to get rid of DW other than to revert to a prior registry backup, or to delete the following keys, or to remove the "View Dependencies" action from the relevant file types in Start - Settings - Folder Options. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{A324EA6 0-2156-11D0-826F-00A0C9044E61}\shell\View Dependencies] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\dllfile\shell\ View Dependencies] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\sysfile\shell\ View Dependencies] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\drvfile\shell\ View Dependencies] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\exefile\shell\ View Dependencies] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\scrfile\shell\ View Dependencies] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\comfile\shell\ View Dependencies] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\cplfile\shell\ View Dependencies] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\Shell\View Dependencies] - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

There is no such menu choice here.
Did something else get installed when I used this the first time? Any file I right click on has a "View Dependencies" option now, I can't find a way to remove it. Dave "mae" wrote in message ... Not there!
I'll dig through the registry and delete it from there I guess. DB "Franc Zabkar" wrote in message ... Maybe the latest version has it but the old one doesn't ??? "Franc Zabkar" wrote in message .. .
