Default Installing fonts

I have downloaded several Zip files from a web page for fonts
(www.abstractfonts.com) and followed the directions on the web page. After
unzipping the files, I went into the Fonts folder (under the control panel)
and tried to install the fonts. The fonts will not install into the folder
(they are truetype fonts). What can I do?

Thank you

What problem are you having when trying to install these fonts? Did you
add the fonts correctly? (File | Install New Font).

Has the Fonts folder lost its "magic"? If you don't have the Install New
Font option under File and don't see the Font Name but rather just the
filename, etc. then your Fonts folder is "Broken". In which case there are
two things you can do:

Either set the system & read attributes by hand as follows:
Start | Run and type:
attrib +s +r fonts

Or if you have TweakUI installed then open TweakUI and on the Repair tab,
select "Repair Fonts Folder" and then click "Repair Now".

How many fonts do you have installed? See KB131943 - "TrueType Font
Limits in Windows 95/98/Me" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=131943).
Whilst the KB states you might be able to install 1000 fonts a more
realistic number is 600 - 700 due to the use of font names longer than 10
characters and the font table in the GDI being limited to 10K.

I also am having this problem. I tried to run attrib +s +r fonts but I
received an error message that said "Extended Error 1,282". Any idea of what
that means??

Try using a Win Me Boot Floppy, choose either option 2 or 3 when booting.
Do not remove the disk until after you have completed the attrib command:

ATTRIB +S +R C:\WINDOWS\FONTS

Alternatively user TweakUI as suggested in the original post.

Your error:
Extended Error number
An MS-DOS system utility tried to access an error message stored in the
COMMAND.COM file, but one of the following problems occurred:
* The utility could not find COMMAND.COM
* The error code was unknown to MS-DOS
* The COMSPEC environment variable did not specify the correct location of
COMMAND.COM
* The command processor you're using is not COMMAND.COM
* The floppy disk in the drive from which you ran COMMAND.COM has been
replaced with a different disk not containing COMMAND.COM
