SRDISKID.DAT
I replaced my CD-ROM with a CD-DVD COMBO drive, made by Samsung and
supported by german software, as I understand it. Installation was flawless and it works beautifully, with bountyful features, including backup. When I checked my SR, I had lost my System Check Points and the C_Restore folder's content was replaced with "SRDISKID.DAT", a 1KB Nero Show Time File. Is there a way to correct this situation and, if so, how? Harry. |

Your drive layout changed even if only temporarily with the result that
system restore automatically reset itself. Provided you don't do this again you shouldn't have any further problems. supported by german software, as I understand it. Perhaps you need to explain yourself here. Are you referring to Ahead's Nero? If so there is no need to install the German version as the English version is readily available. C_Restore folder's content was replaced with "SRDISKID.DAT", a 1KB Nero Show Time File Only because you have chosen to associate files with a DAT extension to Nero. This association will like with other associations have absolutely no effect on the contents of the file or its use by the operating system. Incidentally the file contains just one ascii character which is the same as the drive letter containing the folder. SR will reset itself if the drive letter and the letter contained in srdiskid.dat differ. -- Mike Maltby webster72n wrote: I replaced my CD-ROM with a CD-DVD COMBO drive, made by Samsung and supported by german software, as I understand it. Are you referring to Ahead's Exactly, Mike and "Ahead Software AG" is located in Karsbad, Germany. Hence my assumption. Nero? If so there is no need to install the German version as the English version is readily available. I do have a multi lingual version, I guess, because there are translations of the instructions in most of the major languages. I vaguely remember choosing association of all files mentioned with Nero. Can that be changed back, I hope? Even if not, it doesn't seem to have any ill effects. Mike:
Apparently I've totally (remember Avast) lost my ability to create automatic system check points in exchange for being able to make backups of part of or my entire system, besides numerous other neat features. An unexpected bonus in this highly recommendable adventure. My satisfaction is guaranteed. Harry. "Mike M" wrote in message ... the problem with auto-restore points is almost certainly caused by having
InCD running in the background - try choosing not to start it at boot, and see whether your auto-points come back Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "webster72n" wrote in message ... In this case it was "certainly", without the almost, Noel. I disabled Nero on startup and everything is fine. Thank you for your most helpful intervention. Harry. Harry,
Nero is not InCD. These are two entirely different applications both marketed by Ahead. Nero is a CD and DVD mastering application, InCD is packet writing software. Noel suggested that you disable InCD on startup, he said nothing about disabling Nero on startup, not, of course, that Nero should even be loaded when starting a system but only when mastering a CD. If you don't understand the difference between CD mastering software and packet writing software you might want to start by reading Andy McFaden's CD-Recordable FAQ (http://www.cdrfaq.org/). -- Mike Maltby webster72n wrote: In this case it was "certainly", without the almost, Noel.
