Default Surprised!

When I discovered that MS keeps Win-95 and -98 NG's, while dumping Win-ME
and the German speaking IE group,
I couldn't help but wonder about the reasoning behind it.
Can anyone here help out with this?

Harry.

AFAIK, MS is closing the slowest (least trafficked) groups first. ME
and the Deutsche IE groups probably have much less traffic than the 98
general group.

Does that mean they will eventually close all other NG's?

This and other Win98 NGs are carried on the server nntp.aloe.org
which will presumably continue to do so if msnews.microsoft.com
closes completely.

Yes, I guess you haven't read the messages posted by Microsoft in all
the newsgroups for the past month. They are closing their groups
gradually and hope to have them all closed by Fall.
