Of course it's my opinion, which is shared by many, because I wrote the post. The fact that one has to do so many things to prepare for the installation of IE7 and one does not have to prepare at all for FF2 is the basis for my opinion along with the fact that the IE7 newsgroup gets over a thousand posts with IE7 problems a day. The fact that one has to do so many things to prepare for the
installation of IE7 How odd then that I had to do nothing "special" whatsoever to faultlessly install IE7 on four machines here and countless others I maintain elsewhere. Only those using defective and faulty system destroying applications marketed by the likes of Symantec have to take precautions just as they need to do each time they switch on their PCs. -- Mike Maltby Alias wrote: Of course it's my opinion, which is shared by many, because I wrote the post. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the OP say he was using WinME, and as
far as I am aware IE7 is for XP and later, plus I had no problems installing it and didn't stop any of my security apps to do it either. Correct. IE7 is for XP SP2 or later and therefore users shouldn't attempt
to install it on older systems such as Win Me. -- Mike Joan Archer wrote: Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the OP say he was using WinME, and as far as I am aware IE7 is for XP and later, plus I had no problems installing it and didn't stop any of my security apps to do it either. |

Just FYI for all, I lucked out........installed IE7 before I read all the
'horror stories' about how to install. Mine installed without a hitch and has been functioning without a flaw, thus far. I did not stop or uninstall anything.....left my firewall up, the AV was running, etc. etc. Of course, running XP SP2 on this box. About Navigators
Well, old sock. One of your Texas citizens wrote me several times and
she had a lot of problems with IE7 on a laptop. *** FYI, she and her husband fix computers for a living, so she knows what she is doing. ** She got the same freezing as I did......and worse, once she uninstalled it, IE6 did the same thing. She finally (being incredibly cautious) took my advice and installed Firefox and wrote me to say she is absolutely thrilled with it!!!! I believe the words "far superior to IE" was one thing she said. So what works for you won't necessarily work for your next door neighbour. There are a lot of folks ranting on forums and ng's about how IE7 is messing up their computers. Half of them probably did something totally wrong and/or unrelated...who knows. But I have to say, as I believe Mart did.....I was *totally UNDERwhelmed* by IE7. FF is way better.....which is my opinion and also Alias' opinion. Cheers....Figgs "Heirloom" wrote in message ... About Navigators
H,
As I mentioned I took no "special" precautions when installing IE7 which I have now done many times including all of the various technical beta releases. Those experiencing problems when installing IE7 tend to be those using defective applications such as Norton Destroyer and the like or who continue browsing whilst upgrading their browser (although not having tried the latter it may actually be possible). These tend to be the same folks that encounter problems with their computer whatever they do and is sometimes due to their being overly cautious when doing something new or unusual. Not rebooting when told to do so following an install can also lead to problems if the user then tries to use the product they have just installed. -- Mike M Heirloom wrote: Just FYI for all, I lucked out........installed IE7 before I read all the 'horror stories' about how to install.
