You do NOT want to restore that file.
You have been supplied the url to read on how to remove all traces of the virus. Please follow the instructions. ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/index.html In microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion, "baaabaaaay" wrote: during start up the error message could not find file"sservice.exe(or one of it's components)comes up. also another error message under it says could not find WIN.INI file. i do believe the sservice.exe file is apart of the WIN.INI file, but i am not positive. plz help me to restore this file...i am not sure why it is gone,i think it was deleted with some off those adware and spywares that i deleted. See if you executed all the instructions, explaining the aftereffects
manual removing, which you found at: http://securityresponse.symantec.com...or.prorat.html What about Win.ini... It is more complex question. Enter Windows folder and see if it is there nevertheless. If not -- enter Windows\Sysbckup folder, and open (double click), one by one, files RbXXX.cab, where XXX is any number. If you'll find Win.ini there -- extract it (move by mouse) to \Windows folder, then double click the extracted file and see the first lines of it. The lines: load= run= ought to have nothing at the right of equal sign (with very few exclusions -- but even in that cases it is possible in Win98 as a ruler to delete these parts without any harm). -- Mikhail Zhilin http://www.aha.ru/~mwz Sorry, no technical support by e-mail. No, that is not the url.
Sorry for the delay. I have been away for the day. Gary is on the same wavelength as I am. Please follow this response as you have not fixed the references to the virus as in the url Hugh gave you. You must do it manually. Do not expect an anti-virus to do it all. ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/index.html In microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion, "baaabaaaay" wrote: http://dts-l.org/index.html is the above the url you spoke of?......i went to it and do not understand how to go about to find what i need......could you plz further explain to me. hi gary..ok the first error message that i saw was as follows:
sservice.exe can not find the file 'sservice.exe'(or one of its components). make sure the path and file name are correct and that all required libraries are available. then when i press the ok button , it deletes off my desktop and there is a 2nd error messageas as follows: desktop could not load or run 'sservice.exe' specified in the WIN.INI file.make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the WIN.INI file. then again i press the ok button it goes away ....these 2 messages come up only when i reboot and my computer, to me runs normally. this is a part of the WIN.INI file that i get when i ask for it from the run button on my 'puter.as you can see it has 'sservice.exe '. this is the only place in the WIN.INI file where the sservice.exe is.
