Default Fire Wall?

I'm wondering if a firewall is necessary? I haven't had
one in the past but see that my new ISP has a freeby
download from Zone Labs. Is this a good thing to have? I
do have anti-spyware & an adaware programs on here.

Thanks, JD

A firewall is just as *necessary* as an antivirus program.....download it
now. AdAware is necessary too, but not so much as the first two (sorry,
Silj....grin).

A lot of the new worms/viruses are entering computers via *open ports*....a
firewall stealths them (they are hidden from the bad bots)

OK?? Heather

uh, so that would be a "yes" then?

If you're running through a router that has a hardware firewall on it
(as most do) then you don't need a software firewall *as much*, but it's
good to have

Yes, you need one. Routers only block incoming, not outgoing traffic. A
good, free one can be found at http://www.sygate.com

One that works very well, and it's free is Zone Alarm Free

Zone Alarm - Free

or

Another very good program to have in addition to SpyBot asn AdAware is
SpywareBlaster

SpywareBlaster: Free
