Messenger not Installing

I know its ME NG but....

My cousin use win98 with MSN messenger 6. He was asked to download new
version of messenger (7). But when he tried to install this downloaded new
messenger a message window appeared saying:
"IE 6 or higher is required" while he already have IE6.
I tried to repair the browser in add/remove and also uninstall back to IE
5.5 and then reinstall IE6 without results.

Whats wrong?

then reinstall IE6"

You *might* have got yourself a 'version soup' and Noel's pages may just
help get you out of any potential mess. See :-

It's certainly reported to have helped others with IE5/6 issues but be aware
that the instructions were written for WinMe - You may have to adapt to suit
Win98.
