as usual!

Since our manufacturing system is down my boss has given
me this other machine to play with and attempt to fix. I
am running win98 and it just plain won't boot into
windows. With a boot disk I can get into C. I have run
scandisk and defrag. Can anyone let me know the next
appropriate steps to try?

To add some more details. I can see the initial win98
bootup screen with the line scrolling across the bottom.
After that the screen goes blank and then runs a virus
scan. After the scan says the system if free of viruses it
won't procede any further in the boot up. I can get into
safe mode. Any help would be grealty appreciated.

See if it'll start by booting off the hard disk into command line mode
and typing EXIT or WIN followed by enter
