Hard Drive Problem
When I go into My Computer, my D: drive which is my slave
hard drive shows up as a CD icon with the MS Office puzzle logo above it. My primary hd is drive C: and that icon is the right one. My CD-Rom is drive E: and that icon is the proper one aswell. When I try to delete any files from the D: drive they get deleted but when I go back into My Computer the files are all there. Also if I format the D: drive and restart the computer nothing gets erased. The drive is recognized in the BIOS. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is getting very frustrating. Thanks!!! |

Right click the drive icon and select Properties. Do the properties match

Under properties, the type is local disk and file type is
FAT 32. Also when I right click on the drive this is what is in the drop down menu: Open; Explore; Find; AutoPlay; Configure; Install; WinZip; Format; Create Shortcut; Properties. -----Original Message----- Right click the drive icon and select Properties. Hard Drive Problem
Look in the root folder of the drive for a file called AUTORUN.INF, and if
you find it there then delete it. Does the size of the drive reported under Properties match the size of the drive that BIOS reports (or that you know from the drive label)? -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "dcgapg" wrote in message ... Hard Drive Problem
Do I delete it through MS-Dos or in Windows?
The drive size under properties is 7.82GB but it's a 60GB Maxtor HD. Under IDE auto detection in BIOS, the drive is reported properly. -----Original Message----- Look in the root folder of the drive for a file called AUTORUN.INF, and if you find it there then delete it. Hard Drive Problem
I tried deleting the autorun.inf in DOS and it says access
denied. I tried renaming it in DOS and then deleting it and it still says access denied. When I delete the file in Windows, it says it's deleted to the Recycle Bin and then I empty the recycle bin and go back into My Computer, the file is there again. -----Original Message----- Look in the root folder of the drive for a file called AUTORUN.INF, and if you find it there then delete it. Hard Drive Problem
At least that explains why you are getting the strange icon. To confirm
that the hard disk is recognised properly, open a DOS window and do FDISK /Status. You should be able to see that the disk is recognised as 60Gb, of which you have used 7.8Gb (approx) with your partitioning. How was partitioning for this disk originally done? Have you run SCANDISK on this drive and what was the result? -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "dcgapg" wrote in message ... I tried deleting the autorun.inf in DOS and it says access denied.
