I don't know where Bear got his from, but the three I posted were all
the MSKB gave me. And the third of those seems not really a match! Don't
do that one, but the others seem worth a try. The numbers need not match
necessarily.

The location doesn't really matter, MR, and seeing that this is a problem of
longstanding, it'd be well neigh impossible to determine how it happened.
As KB218632 points out, "This behavior can occur if the registry entries for
WordPad or Paint are damaged." The fix is to Uninstall MS Paint, delete all
Registry keys for MS Paint, and then reinstall it.

Hi I guess you can work it out, but I am a real beginner as computers are
concerned so would need to take thinks one step at a time.

First, I cannot see ms paint in " install/uninstall programs"

Second, Where would I reload "paint" from. I presume it is on the windows 98
cd.

Third, if I attempt to fix paint Am I likely to end up with a Dead computer.

Cheers Steve

You install/uninstall via
Control Panel-Add/Remove-Windows Setup-Accessories-Paint
Have your Win98 CD ready.

You may not have to install/uninstall.
Have a look he

I have found that 95% of problems with MSPaint are fixed by this

To resolve this problem, use registry editor to delete the following
registry key:

This registry key is rebuilt the next time you start Paint.

Glad you are fixed. MSPaint won't be in the Install/Uninstall tab of
Add/Remove Programs. It will be in the Windows Setup tab...

1. "Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, "
2. Click Accessories, and then click Details.
3. It will show up as "Paint".

But I think it may be possible you have no Windows Setup tab. If so,
I''l go search for the thread in which that condition was solved or
explained. It was a tough one, IIRC. (Therefore, I'll give Edwards/Bear
the first shot, maybe.)
