Default Windows 98 startup screen

Hi,

Just a quick question about the Windows 98 startup screen. You know the one
when you turn on your computer and the screen has the large Windows logo with
the light blue background (with a few clouds) and the words "Microsoft
Windows 98"...anyways, I sure you know what I'm talking about. Can a person
change that picture? What folder is that picture in? The reason I ask is
because I have a Titanic screen saver and I can also have the option of
having Titanic as my startup screen. But what if I want to change my picture
back? Thanks in advance.

The file is logo.sys (usually C:\logo.sys)

If the file logo.sys does not exist in the root directory,
the system creates it from io.sys for the current session.
If you create a 320x400 256colour bitmap and save it as c:\logo.sys
then your system will use it on startup
You will have a bit of stretching or skewing to get it right.

To revert back, just delete logo.sys

Dan,

These Logo screens are simple windows bitmap files (.bmp) with the
following names:
Logo.sys = Start up Screen. This file is in IO.sys but if Windows
sees it in the root it will load it instead.
Logow.sys = Please wait while your computer shuts down. Windows
folder.
Logos.sys = It's now safe to turn off your computer. In the Windows
folder.

You can use any graphic file as long as you save it as a 320x400x256
windows bitmap. Then simply replace the above files with the new
ones. Logo.sys goes in the root.

The option to have the Titanic startup screen should simply place
the *.bmp file in the root and name it Logo.sys. Deleting or
re-naming the *.bmp file should restore the Windows logo. The IO.sys
file can always be copied from your Win98 Startup diskette to the
root.
