upgrade w/o oem?
To my favorite MVP's: Would like to upgrade from Win98se to XP Pro.
Is it possible to do without the 'sneaky stuff' included by the maker of the computer (HP)? Will also consider the 'full' version of XP. I do not like the 'treatment' I've been getting between HP and Microsoft. I expect better treatment by being a 'continuing customer' with Microsoft, and 'seperating' the two of them. Please be gentle. Especially 'radiated' PCR. |

If your HP did not come with XP, it may not be able to take the
radiation. It may not even survive the XP-tester! SO... BETTER make a full system backup before trying. Would you like my list of full system backup apps? OK, here it is... Once you have a functioning system, especially one close to a clean install, do a full system backup. If you have multiple partitions, I guess a backup is a bit more complex. It depends upon the ties between the Registry & the other partitions, as to whether they must be backed up concurrently. Also, if you've changed the hardware since the backup, you may need to change it back before a restore. http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/index.html Backup & partitioning strategy http://www.acronis.com/products/trueimage/ TrueImage http://www.arjsoftware.com ARJ Archiver http://www.betterbackup.com/ Retrospect CD Backup http://www.bootitng.com/ 's BootIt NG, has a variety of backup capabilities: Copy to HDD, or Image to HDD or to CD. Yes Mr. Paton, I 'bothered' to read the link. It is exasparting to
wade through tons of information trying to find info for Win98. It is being systematically ignored. I may have missed that sentence that said "This also applies to Windows 98se." Initially, I was told by Hp support that my system would support XP. I ran the check for eligibility---got bad report. Since I am not one to give up without 'clarification', I still seek. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ "Noel Paton" wrote in message ...
