no windows setup items
Is there a way of getting the windows setup items back. I checked the add\remove windows setup tab and there are no items listed at all. I also get an error message stating "rundll32 has caused an error in setupx.dll. rundll32 will now close".
Is there a way of getting back the windows setup listing back. Thanks, |

Your setupx.dll error is usually the result of your having deleted some
empty folders in Program Files that were placed there when Win Me was installed that are used for optional components of Win Me and then using a registry cleaner such as EasyCleaner which removed some necessary entries required for Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup to function because the target folders were no longer present. You can avoid this happening in future by not deleting such folders and similarly not deleting any values in the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Set up\VarLDID I would have attached a zip file containing a reg file containing all of the required entries to my reply but since you are using the web interface to these newsgroups rather than a proper newsreader you would never see the attachment. If you get to see this reply and want me to send you the repair patch please e-mail me at . -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP fcc0610 wrote: Is there a way of getting the windows setup items back. Thank you very much, Mike .
Due to your expertise, the problem is solved. After the extraction and merge procedure from the Varldid file, all I had to do was to reboot, an viola! All the items in the startup are safe and sound. Thanks once again! |
