Cannot restart with Messaging Services running

Hi there, I sometimes get this error

" Windows cannot restart the computer or start MS-DOS mode with messaging
services running. Please close all running programs, and then click OK to
continue.

I try closing all programs but the error pops back up again so i am forced
to reboot the computer. I am running 98se, with WORD and OUTLOOK usually
runnning.

Can anyone help.

Windows 98 can't run a messaging service, but Windows XP
can, so you might have some adware/malware loaded that
thinks it's on an XP system.

Download, install and run these free utilities:
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
Ad-aware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
HighjackThis and CWShredder - http://www.spywareinfo.com/

If you haven't got a virus scanner, try using the free
version of AVG from http://www.grisoft.com/.

Make sure that they've got the latest updates by running
their update features.

Go to
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip.
Download HijackThis! [freeware] Latest version is 1.98.
Unzip the Download file in a NEW FOLDER that you can
create before you start the download. DO NOT install in
your Desktop folder. DO NOT use any of the TEMP folders
that are presently in your computer. Double-click the
HijackThis.exe file and click on Scan. When the scan is
finished, the Scan button will change into a Save Log
button. Click: Save Log (doing this generates a
hijackthis.log file) Next, HijackThis = Config [button]
= Misc Tools [button]. Click: Generate StartupList log
[button] (generates a startuplist.txt file) Next, go to
this location: http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/. Sign
in, then copy and paste both files in your message.
