Default Error message for outlook express

Error 0x800C0131 when using Outlook Express is often the result of a
damaged file, folders.dbx. This file is at the heart of the message store
and contains amongst other things, details of how you have arranged your
folders list, the list of newsgroups on your news server and also a record
of those messages in your Inbox and subscribed newsgroups which you have
not yet read,

One fix is, with Outlook Express closed, to look for the file folders.dbx
and rename it folders.old. Folders.dbx is located in your message store
and the location of this folder can be determined when in Outlook Express
by using Tools | Options | ! Maintenance | Store folder and noting its
location and the browsing to it using Windows Explorer.

On reopening Outlook Express a new copy of folders.dbx will automatically
be created however your local folders (message store) will appear as a
single alphabetic list in the folders bar so if you have them structured
in any way you will need to rebuild this. Similarly if you want to add a
newsgroup you will only find your current newsgroups listed so will have
to refresh the list if you want to add another.

Bob,

Thanks for the feedback and I'm pleased to read that the "fix" I suggested
worked.

I have lived with this problem for over 2 years

Aren't self help newsgroups wonderful - and no, I'm not being sarcastic or
anything like that. It's rare for me to have a computer problem and not
to then be able to find a solution via either a newsgroup or Google.
