Default Problem opening email attachment

I have Windows 98 Retail OEM 5/11/98.
Occasionally I can't open an email attachment and get
a "NCompass ActiveX Plug In" screen reading "the viewer
required to display this file is not installed.Re-run the
Microsoft Office Setup program to add the required viewer".
I have not installed Office and don't have the Setup
software.
What installation programme is required to solve this
problem?

Robert,

A good place to start would be if you could tell us the extension of the
file type you are trying to open.

Sandi,
The attachment detail shows :-
Type. Microsoft Word (application/msword)
Encoding. base64

Is this information adequate?

Thanks,
ARJAY

Robert,

I'm sorry for the delay but I'm a volunteer. I answer questions in here in
the spare time available to me between working full time, looking after a
family, working on XP SP2, studying VB .NET and trying to see the sun and
get some fresh air occasionally.

You cannot view a Word document unless you have a Word viewer or Office
installed. Go to the URL below and get the viewer appropriate for your
operating system.
