Default Some Emails being blocked

Some emails get through to me (Windows ME and Outlook Express 6), but others,
including those from ebay, do not. I suspect my system is blocking them
somehow, but I do not have a firewall as such, just Lavasoft Adaware anti
Spam, and a reputable anti virus setup. My ISP sent me a test email that got
through straight away, so I can't blame them!

Has anyone any clues as to how i unravel this as it has got me beat
(I think I'm in the right forum, but apologise if not..its my first post on
this forum)

A firewall could only block email if it was configured to block the sending
server, anyway. Most people using personal firewall software do not do that.
How does that Lavasoft AS software work?

It might be a tough one. Unless you have an email account with another
provider, you won't have a good view of what is happening with the email you
aren't getting. Even if you do have such an account, it might not be
affected as the eBay email is. Unless somebody at eBay is willing to look
through their logs for bounces.

As good a group as any, I suppose; but there is also a
"microsoft.public.internet.mail" group.

I suspect it could be OE settings, but don't use the
program as a rule so can't be of much help.

Is your quality found on this list??

The first place to check is your ISP. There has been much grumbling of late
about some of them blocking entire regions of the world in misguided
attempts to reduce spam. no names mentioned, but if the letter "V" means
anything to you...

If you're thinking Verizon OnLine - please think twice. I
am with their service and have been for 2 months. I don't
see any change. I use ELN as primary e-mail and Verizon as
news catch for replies from news.

Thanks everyone...I have a part solution. I cancelled my ebay account and
reregistered, and lo and behold emails re-appeared. Likewise with Paypal I
closed the account, and gave my reasons on a feedback..and for some reason
their emails began to appear. I also closed my anti spam programme
temporarily. This still does not explain why some emails from friends with no
possible 'spam' content have failed to get through, though most that fail do
have attachments ( modest size documents, not photos)..which might get them
caught in a spam trap possibly...As I said I'm mystified by the whole
thing....It a UK ISP owned by one of our major Utility comglomerates. They
deny any problems with my account.

Thanks again

Yes, I am, and for more info if you are a subscriber, look at the
newsgroups 0.verizon.adsl, 0.verizon.discussion.general, and
0.verizon.email (or something to that effect) those arent available off-net
and only on the news.verizon.net server you have to authenticate. more info
is on broadbandreports.com.

The only MSOE settings that would have that kind of an effect would be
rules.
