Default Hard Drive removal from Windows Explorer

I use to have two hard disk in my pc. I remove the slave
one. On the Bios it only shows me the prymary hard disk
and the two cd-roms that i have, but when i go to the
windows explorer it shows me as if the disk that i remove
was still there when its not. Even the little picture net
to the drive letter have change as if it were a cd-rom. I
have something lie this:
c (hard disk)
d (the one i remove)
e (cd-rom)
f (cd-rom)

c, e and f are working perfectly but i want to remove the
drive d from that list and havent been able.

If somebody knows what to do i will appreciate your help.
Thanks in advance,James.

Hi,

Boot into safe mode, go into Device Manager and delete the unwanted
drive there. Reboot.

Safe mode= Repeatedly tap F8 at boot(before the Windows logo), then
select safe mode from the Start-up menu.

Device Manager= right click My Computer, selct properties, then the
Device Manager tab

Since Windows now thinks it's a CD-ROM, look under that category in the
Device Manager. Check the properties of the individual devices to find
the corresponding drive letter of the device you want removed.

Note that when you remove one of the drives out of the sequence of
letters, Windows will change the letters assigned to the others(your "e"
drive will become "d", and so on). That in turn might affect some
programs that require a CD to run and are written to 'look' for the CD
at the same drive letter that it was installed with. You may be able to
reinstall such a program 'overtop' of the existing one to make the
changes or make the required change(s) yourself in the registry(if you
have the knowledge to do that, don't attempt it if you don't know how).

Having removed the D:\drive, Windows normally will want to give that
letter to one of the CD-ROM. That may be over-ridden in Device Manager
(at the Settings tab of the CD-ROM Properties). Mostly Me (MM) is
correct that certain apps may expect your two to be E:\ & F\:. "START
button, Run, SysEdit". Are they mentioned in Autoexec.bat or Config.sys?

If you Remove drivers from a category in Device Manager, you should
Remove them all...

(1) Boot to Safe Mode. (Hold F5 as you boot, or hold CTRL for the
Startup Menu, & select Safe Mode from that.)
(2) "START, Settings, Control Panel, System, Device Manager tab".
(3) Open the CD-ROM branch, by clicking it's plus sign.
(4) Highlight each drive in that branch, & click "Remove".
(Safe Mode may reveal the presence of a "ghost".)
(5) Close up, & boot to Normal Mode.

Hopefully Windows will find the correct drivers, & all will be well.
