Windows 98 will not start

Windows 98 gets to the splash screen "Windows 98" then freezes.System File
Checker says the file "sparrow.mpd " is corrupted. Any help appreciated (I do
not have a Windows 98 Installation disc.

Do you have the .cab files on the hard drive? Often when you don't get CD with the
computer, the setup files are put on the hard drive, usually at
C:\Windows\Options\Cabs, or C:\Windows\Options\Install

Sparrow.mpd would be in BASE5.CAB, and belongs in the C:\Windows\System\iosubsys
folder.

that's just a driver problem,
press F8, boot in safe mode, remove the driver then reinstall it
it's kinda small, fits on a floppy for sure so you can get it from another
computer
