They assembled that site after getting about the millionth call to their
radio show, from people who needed exactly the type of help you need right
now.

If that site wears on your nerves for some reason, try:

www.securitytango.com

....and click on Let's Dance

A number of friends have been pleased with the clarity there.

Interesting how everyone is able to criticize the one that gives a
suggestion and yet are unable to offer anything of value to the OP.

But I do largely agree with Beta software.
I rarely if ever suggest Beta anything as a solution.
Beta anything should not be installed unless you are fully prepared to lose
all data and perform a Clean Installation to resolve unexpected issues.

The guy's already up to his neck in aggravation, and you think beta
software would be something he'll have the patience for?

Richard;
At the time, there is nothing that meets your needs.
There are products that claim to have it all but it is still best to use two
or more spyware detectors and even occasionally get an online virus scan as
a second opinion.

Computer technology may never get to the state you want.
Until there is, you will not be able to "install it and forget it,"

| For every reviewer than pans it, you'll find another who likes it. Take a
| look at www.pcmag.com, and see what their review said. Also, you might
| consider the ZoneAlarm suite (www.zonelabs.com). I use ZoneAlarm Pro (the
| firewall/spyware thing), and I've been happy with it. No idea how the
| antivirus aspect works in the larger suite.
|

Zone Labs bundles CA eTrust as does CA bundle Zone Alarm with eTrust.

The biggest cause of malware/virus infections is the person using the
computer not the software/hardware they have.

Security is a process not a piece of hardware or software. If you learn
the security features of your browser/OS and use proper security
techniques such as not opening unsolicted attachments, keeping your
software patched and up to date and avoiding malicous web sites you will
find that you don't need to spend time cleaning up malware/viruses.

FWIW I run my system without a firewall on a high speed connection or a
real time virus scanner and have yet to have a security incident in the
MANY years I have run this way. I do regular scans for spyware and viruses
and have yet to have found even a malicious cookie. I don't recommend you
run this way with a shared computer, if you have kids, or can't be
bothered to practice safe hex.

Zonelabs "Truevector" service caused me a big headache a while ago, it
caused an installed application to malfunction, can't remember which one -
possibly Adobe Photoshop or it could have been Micrografix ....just came
back to me ....it was Dreamweaver 4, anyway after a hunt round the web I
found other people having the same trouble so uninstalled Zonealarm.
Dreamweaver was okay after that, I bought a newer version of Dreamweaver
but, could never find out how to configure it - so gave up and went back to
DW4

It would be nice if there were. But unfortunately, it doesn't exist.

As hard as vendors work to make software more Secure - there is a
whole group of Hackers/Crackers/Thief's working to exploit every
line of code to make a buck or cause mischief. Security software &
personal effort is the hidden "Software-Tax" we all pay to use the
Internet.
