Having problems wirh MS Word, Excel, PDF file etc

My PC used to work just fine.

However recently, when I open an attachment like MS word, Excel PDF
file ( adobe), an icon associated with the documents comes on my
desktop.

So now I have so many icons on my desktop each representing the
attached document I opened up recently.

Can any one pls. help me get solve this problem.

I have a win Me 800 MHZ 20GB HD and approx 176 RAM.

Thanks
Tina

Your anti-virus or other security software has installed a replacement for
the default action of opening an attachment. By saving the attachment to the
desktop the file is scanned for problems. You should double-click the
desktop icon to look at the file, then delete the icon when you have
finished.

Hi

If i get a Word attachment via my comcast email directly to my Outlook
Express I can open the attachment. However when it comes thru Yahoo,
Hotmail etc I cannot open it.

I have to forward the email ( from Yahoo, hotmail etc) to my comcast
email account which drops into my Outlook express, then and only then
can I open it. ( and the attachment then becomes an icon on my
desktop)

It used to work fine till a few weeks ago.

Can any one pls help me ?

Thanks
Tina

You should contact Yahoo, Hotmail etc about this problem, as they each have
their own private way of dealing with attachments. As these are both web
mail services, the problem is probably associated with the security settings
in your web browser not matching the settings that these services require in
order to be able to send the attachment to you.
