You're best bet is a router. A 4 port costs approx $60 US.
Or a step up from DCC would be to put another NIC in the machine you wish to use as the gateway and install ICS. Control Panel Add/Remove Programs Windows setup tab. Double click Internet tools and select ICS ( Internet Connection Sharing ). http://www.wown.com/articles_tutorials/icsw98se.html http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/ -- Brian A. Steve: Thank you very very much. I had been searching for an answer to this question for about 3 weeks. As a follow-up. On your website you mention that as an alternative to DCC it is possible to use Ethernet networking to connect two computers and you reference two other websites for further information to do this. I have an Ethernet card in both of my computers and I spent quite a bit of time searching both sites but I am unable to find the instructions for ethernet networking between two computers as an alternative to DCC. I'd appreciate it if you could please help by pointing to where the information is located on these sites. Again...Thanks very much for your help. Zel "Steve Winograd [MVP]" wrote in message ... In article , "Zel Dolinsky" wrote: First thank you very much for trying to help out. Although I am going to talk about DCC the issue is actually very much simpler per below. I am trying to use Direct-Cable-Connection (DCC) which I have successfully done before using other computers. I seem to be getting stuck at a very simple point on my Gateway computer which is: Right click on "Network Neighborhood" and then left click on "properties" and then I left click on "Add" and highlight "Service" and then left click on "Add" to be able to Add "File and Print Sharing". However when I click on the last "Add" instead of a number of choices coming up and being able to choose "File and Print Sharing" nothing at all happens. I click on "Add" and I don't get any choices. So....I can't choose to add the service that I need (File and Print Sharing) and can't proceed any further with setting up DCC. Both computers are running Win98 SE and this is not a problem with the other computer. Please don't tell me to reinstall Win98SE I feel that this is due to some registry setting or some overall system setting. I really appreciate any help you help you can provide. Take care...........Zel Please see this Microsoft Knowledge Base article for a solution: Network Components Missing in Network Tool in Control Panel http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;193637 To search the Knowledge Base, go to this web page: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;KBHOWTO -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
