Default HELP: Ethernet controller problem

I have a 5 1/2 years-old IBM Aptiva 520 running W98.
It was my kids' playing computer for a long time.
Due to abuse (non-physical), I had to reinstall everything from the recovery
CD, after formatting the hard disk.
Everything else seems to be working OK, except the Ethernet controller. I
used PC-Doctor from "How to" Aptiva feature to see the list of PCI devices.
It shows the following.

Bus 0 Device 15 Function 0:
Device Class: 02H 00H (00H) Ethernet Controller
Vendor ID: 10ECH Realtek
Device ID: 8139H (Revision 10H)
Interrupt: 10

I tried to install/update device driver through "Update Device Driver
Wizard." I saved all floppy disks and CD's that came with the system many
years ago, but none has the driver I need. So I selected "Display a list of
all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you
want" option from the Wizard. It shows tons of manufacturers and adapters.
It shows Realtek and 3 of its adapters, but it does NOT show 8139H. I have
tried all 3 Realtek adapters. None worked. I tried other vendors and other
adapters (out of desperation). None worked. When I type "ipconfig" from
DOS prompt, I get "IP ConfigurationFatal Error Cannot read IP
configuration" error message.

I Googled the web, and got the latest driver from the Realtek web site, but
the computer says, it already has the best driver for the adapter and won't
update the driver.

How do I recover from this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It does not show any Realtek Ethernet adapter drivers.
Is it possible that PC-doctor showed wrong adapter information?
