Default What is max external USB/Firewire HD size can add to WIN98 laptop

Hello,
I have a Gateway Solo 9300 CX with 12GB internal HD and would like to
extend its life before spending hundreds on a newer system before VISTA comes
out.

I need as big an external HD I can get. USB or Firewire.

Is there/What is limit for Windows 98 ??

Gateway tech support said 80GB and recommend :

Apricorn EZ Bus DT 80GB

Any feedback is good .....

Thanks,
GR

As for USB -- they are the generic IDE-drives with USB-IDE translator. So I
wouldn't install the USB-drive larger than 137 GB: Win98 does not support
48-bit LBA.

The nearest lower standard size is 120GB.

As for FireWire -- as far as I know, the limitation is the general limitation
for FAT32, i.e. 2 Terabytes (~2 000 Gigabytes).

Firewire or USB, biggest current capacity hard drive is 120GB that
98/98SE/ME will handle without data loss.

You can get one bigger, but data loss is probable when nearing the 128GB
mark. Subdividing into partitions makes no difference.

Stay away from Maxtor One Touch, there's a class action law suit on those
right now.
