You mean this one? Or the one you just posted? Or the one wondering what was
meant by "start Dr Watson"? (Just joking, mostly. You meant the Dr Watson
one, right?)

If you get a message saying:

"Exception EAccessViolation in module SPYBOTSD.EXE at 002E 6098. Access
violation at address 006E 609B in module 'SPYBOTSD.EXE'. Read of
address
FFFFFFFF."

the answer is to start Dr Watsons and *then* run Spybot.

I seem to recall that Spybot claim it's an issue with the way 98 handles
memory. I'm not convinced.

Glad it worked.

I updated to that version 1.5 ~ when it was recommended and ran it once and
uninstalled it. If I use SpyBot again I will reinstall v.1.4 only. The new
v.1.5 requires way to much system resources for win98/95 even though they
say it is ok... Is it really any better than the v.1.4 which worked like a
charm on win98?

Uhuh. I just took the download of SpybotSD152.exe (v.1.5.2)-- which is
9,772,720 bytes huge! Have you seen Terhune's suggestion on that...?...

.......Quote Terhune's suggestion.........
Spybot S&D (do not install Tea-Timer, SDHelper or Immunization. Just use
for
static scanning on some schedule like weekly or monthly.
http://www.safer-networking.org/
.......EOQ........................................ ....

Did you install those extras to come to your assessment-- or did you
find v.1.5.2 kills resources even just running it statically?

Please define "system resources" as used in your post. When I run tests
(with NOTHING running in the background except basic Windows,) I get
essentially the same numbers. User Resources drop from 99% to 90%. GDI drops
from 98% to 45%.

Of course, as PCR says, I recommend against using Spybot for anything but
static scanning.

It's been awhile; I think I used the resource meter that gives: System,User
and GDI all sucking bottom yellow--red; and System Properties performance
tab. I was using SDhelper to silently block and Immunization features on
v.1.4 with no problems and probably extended this to v.1.5 ~. I think the
program is a bit overweight for win95/98. I still have the restricted zones
list active but now use also E.Howes ie-spyad. I run with U.S.CERT "custom"
browser settings and have reviewed and used Mike Burgess security settings
and Auhuma WSC and your website ideas at the Grystmill. I do have certain
online services running in the background like Spysweeper and Avast and ZA
FW. I also have some startup items that are enhancements to keyboard and HP
systems running in the background. I have taken them down before but as I
wrote above the program itself is overweight for this system and trying to
be jack-of-all with win xp and vista.

All I can say is that if Resource Meter is constantly in the yellow, you
have too much crap running in the background. For instance, I would ONLY
have Spysweeper and your AV actually running in the background.

Or were you remembering an on-demand scanning session when you said the RM
dropped to yellow/red?
