WinMe is now Mac OS Again
Yesterday I visited the Windows Update (WU) site and downloaded a critical
update for Outlook Express 6. After downloading, when I return to WU, I get referred to the Microsoft support site Office for Mac OS. About a month ago I inadvertently reinstalled WinMe, which created the need to get the updates. This problem came up then and I think it was Microsoft's fault then. Thanks for any help Scott Los Angeles |

The answer today remains the same as a month ago. there has been no change
in that time. At least one of the Windows Update servers is badly configured and needs correction but Microsoft clearly no longer care about fixing problems like this that just affect those running Win9x systems since the Windows Update platform used by Win 9x is not used by more recent systems such as XP or Vista. The "problem" here is that Win9x operating systems such as Win Me dropped out of extended support in July 2006 so Microsoft don't really give a d$mn about such problems and are in no rush to fix things, assuming that they will. If you know what you need you might want to instead download patches from the Windows Update Catalog (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp) or Download Centre (www.microsoft.com/downloads/ ). Alternatively give it a few hours/day or two and then try again. You will either succeed or have to wait and try again. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Windows Scott wrote: Yesterday I visited the Windows Update (WU) site and downloaded a critical update for Outlook Express 6. Thanks for the reply. A Windows Installer service issue brought me back to
WU. I hope you can help me with that. I will post it in it's own message. Thanks Scott Los Angeles |
