Bios vs Control panel
In the bios, UDMA can be set to auto/off/etc for each device on each
channel. In the control panel, a DMA checkbox will appear for some devices and not others. I assume some devices do not support DMA. What is the difference? Does one of these settings over ride the other? bg |

As you pointed out in your post, the bios must be enabled for DMA/UDMA for
the device first. The check box in control panel implements the DMA driver for windows for the particular ide device, the second requirement. Neither override the other, they are both required. You guess is correct, some ide devices do not support DMA. Or the bios itself does not support DMA for the particular device (need both). "bg" wrote in message ...
