If all attempts to install windows 98SE over the existing version of
windows fails, you may try to, either install windows 98SE by booting
from the installation CD and selecting an installation directory
diffirent than the current windows version, or deleting the current
operating system and installing Windows 98SE with a clean install.

The recovery disk does have Win-Me on it
even if it does not show up as cabs and files.
It is probley like the Sony PC that only shows
up as an ISO image but has all the info to
fix anything pertaining to Me.

I can't delete the current version of windows which is me
as the recovery disc doesn't give me the option to do
this, and i can't boot up win 98 se from the disc as it
won't let me downgrade to it.
Win me came on the pc when we got it,we have no
uninstallation disc for it either.

Copy all your personal files to another disk drive, remove all
partitions from your system drive, add one FAT32 partition (using FDisk)
and reboot with the Windows 98SE installation disc in the drive, boot
from it, select boot to MS-DOS, format your system drive, then reboot
again from the Windows 98SE installation disc and install windows 98SE.

I know the recovery disc has win me on it,but i don't want
win me on the pc as its not a very good system,i want to
downgrade to win 98 se but i can't get the pc set up to
take win 98 se!
The recovery disc doesn't give me the option of not
reinstalling win me and the pc never came with a win me
disc, this is why i'm asking if anybody knows how to
uninstall win me so i can set up and install win 98 se.

Back up your needed files and then format the C: partition to get rid of ME.
Make sure there are W98 drivers available for your hardware. For
information on installing W98, go to:
