Only 1 PCI Slot Works
HP 6735, OEM Win ME. PCI devices will not work in slot 2 or 3, any of them
install and work in slot 1. Machine has always had error 22 for acpi pci irq holder /00000003 in msinfo. There is no solution button or info to resolve problem. Tried troubleshooter, HP online and phone support, numerous hours in the HP and MS KB's and other tech help sites, editing registry, removing controllers in safe mode. |

Forget about the Error 22 it has little or nothing to do with why your PCI
slot 2 and 3 are not working which could well be because you have problems with your motherboard. Error Code 22: See MS KB 272291 - "ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering" Problem Device Entry in System Information Tool" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=272291) where you will find it stated that what you are seeing is "by design". Such entries are often the result of having changed the layout of your PCI cards or following the removal of a card. Forget about this "error" as it is unlikely to have an effect and is simply indicating that the place holder previously used is no longer required. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP TheRealFastlane wrote: HP 6735, OEM Win ME. I read that as well as Q310123 which I must be misinterpreting, it says if
not started you receive error message, the device is not started, click start device, if not enabled you receive error message not enabled, click enable (in device mgr?), if device is disabled by a driver or program you receive eror message this device is disabled, cannot be enabled, remove device and redetect it with add new hardware. The device itself, a creative live 24bit sound card is installed but disabled, error 12, no free I/O. If I try to manually cfg resources it shows irq 0 and i/o 0000-001F and the system wont allow to change either value. Ask the folks that made the motherboard.

IRQ 0 is 'reserved' for the System Timer. Unless your PC is heavily loaded with hardware you should have some spare IRQ's, not that it matters a great deal as properly designed hardware should share IRQ's without conflict. It's possibly that PCI slots 2 & 3 have been disabled in the BIOS for some obscure reason so it may be worth your while looking into it. Other than that, your motherboard might be faulty. After a few hours of experimenting yesterday and several more trying to get
the machine restarted I've come to the conclusion that PCI slots 2 and 3 on this Pavilion were dead on arrival. Between the SB live soundcard anf GeForce 4, either work fine in the top slot and only that slot. HP has idiosychracies in their OEM version of Win ME as well.
