ME and Really Big Hard Drives
I recently got a 200 Gig hard drive, and have hooked it up
as a slave. And the first time I started up ME, it recognized that it had new hardware, and then said I had to restart. I did so, and now it can't find any new hardware, nor does it see it having a new hard drive. I've been told ME has problems with big drives, is this true? Either way, how can I get it to recognize the drive? Thanks for your time. |

When I first installed my WD 120Gb drives a couple of years ago I had to
download and run DataLifeguard from the WD web site. The program must be on a boot floppy and it will setup the drive as you require. Could be you need something similar from the manufacturer. Check the web site. Also, does the BIOS recognize the drive. Most motherboards cannot see drives larger than 137Gb. "mlsq42" wrote in message ... WD as in Western Digital? That's what mine is.
And how do I tell if the BIOS regonizes it? I only know enough about this sort of stuff to get into real trouble. Thanks for your time thus far. -----Original Message----- When I first installed my WD 120Gb drives a couple of years ago I had to download and run DataLifeguard from the WD web site. Both the motherboard and bios have to be capable of recognising drives
larger than 137GB. Win Me is not one such an operating system and to fully utilise such a drive you will need to be running at least XP SP1 or later as well as having a motherboard that supports 48 bit addressing.. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP mlsq42 wrote: I recently got a 200 Gig hard drive, and have hooked it up as a slave. Regardless of whether your motherboard bios sees all of your new drive it
is unlikely that Win Me will do so but you may be OK once if you can partition and therefore break the drive down into a number of smaller volumes. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP mlsq42 wrote: WD as in Western Digital? Go to the Western Digital (WD) web site, download DataLifeguard, use it to
make a boot floppy, use the floppy to boot the computer, setup your hard drive. You may have received a CD with the drive that has the files on it. "mlsq42" wrote in message ...
