Windows 98 comp not starting up
To reinstall Windows, go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and
create a Windows 98 boot floppy. Use it to start the problem computer, select "Start with CD support", then insert your Windows 98 CD, type "setup" and press "Enter". Windows 98 comp not starting up
Try cleaning the Windows CD. Also, you might try testing it on another computer,
perhaps the one you are using now. If this doesn't help, please repost with more details, including what part of the installation process the error message appears. Doesn't the WINBOOT.INI file require the padding like the MSDOS.SYS file does to ensure that it is more than 1024 bytes in size? It is my understanding that the files are fully functional without the padding, which is apparently used to prevent problems with third party software. http://support.microsoft.com/?id=129998 Ben |
