Hello Noel,
After several cold reboots I still do not have it. I checked Folder Options and the three relevant boxes remain unchecked. It was there when I checked it on receiving your first response. Then came those 'experimentations' coupled with the 'proving' using Delindex and PurgeIE (as in my other posts). I had a similar experience with the reluctance of Me (my version!)to recreate the C:\Windows\Temp folder I manually recreated it several times - it finally came back of it's own accord. Can I recreate the shelliconcache in the same way? This was it's path wasn't it C:\Windows\...? And no registry/desktop tweakers. Cheers, Noel, Ben. -----Original Message----- The ShellIconCache folder is hidden by default, Ben - and always rebuilt on a reboot if missing! are you using some form of resident registry/desktop tweaker?? -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Ben B" wrote in message ... Hello Job, It doesn't give me the icon picture. But I see I have lost my shelliconcache folder and that may explain why. I would like to ask you if these picture icons remain in place after a cold reboot and after you clear all your caches? BTW the link you first gave me takes me to a map of "The Powerful Sumatra-Andaman Islands Earthquake" not that that matters. Thanks, Job. -----Original Message----- Hi again Ben, Yes it does "other" for me. I just tried it again. I went to the web page and right-clicked with the cursor sitting over some of the text, selected "Create Shortcut" clicked OK and got an icon of Saturn on my Desktop. Guess you can right click anywhere on the page (except where the pointer turns into a hand). "Ben B" wrote in message ... Hello Joe, Thanks for responding. I used your URL and was able to place a shortcut on the desktop but it had the I.E. icon logo, nothing inspirational in other words. Does it do other for you? Thanks. Right-click a blank area of the page, select "Create Shortcut", click OK. As a test go to http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html and try the steps above. Hi, Some of the icons which appear when a desktop shortcut is created (FileSendShortcut to Desktop) are attractive, but a reboot will always replace them with the MS I.E. logo. Is there a way of preventing this replacement? Thanks. __________________ Ben. . . . |

Ben
I would like to ask you if these picture icons remain in place after a cold reboot and after you clear all your caches? They stay in place after I do a Restart. I expect they will also stay in place after coming back up when I do a Shutdown. I don't clear caches (don't know how to nor do I know why I would want to). BTW the link you first gave me takes me to a map of "The Powerful Sumatra-Andaman Islands Earthquake" not that that matters. You went to the right place and got the right screen. If you give him enough information I'm sure Noel can help you out. Thanks, Job. -----Original Message----- Hi again Ben, Yes it does "other" for me. I just tried it again.
