msconfig startup

how do I delete unchecked entries from the startup list. there are over 50
entries but I'm only using 12.

To remove unwanted entries in MSConfig | Startup in most cases involves
editing the registry and removing the unwanted entries by hand. If you
choose to go this route you will need to proceed with caution and I would
strongly advise that you not only first backup the registry (SCANREG
/BACKUP) but also make a system restore checkpoint. The list that follows
gives you the possible locations for entries that appear in MSConfig |
Startup.

Checked entries are located in one of
[Registry (Per-User Run)]
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

[Registry (Machine Run)]
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

[Registry (Machine Service)]
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Services

And unchecked entries in
[Registry (Per-User Run)]
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-

[Registry (Machine Run)]
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-

[Registry (Machine Service)]
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Services-

In addition checked entries might also be located in

C:\Windows\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
and
C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

and unchecked entries in

C:\Windows\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Disabled Startup Items
and
C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Disabled Startup Items
