My Dear Friend
If you have a writer, you can make a bootable CD using Nero. But how do you
know that your CD is not bootable? Maybe your boot sequence is wrong. I
suggest you to try one of the following:

1- Copy your win98 CD into your hard disk and start setup from your hard
drive. It will work.

2- When you start your laptop you see a message "press F10 to enter setup"
or "Press Del to enter setup". Press F10 or Del to enter setup and goto
"Bios Features setup" or something like this. Then go to "Boot Sequence" and
change your boot sequence into "CD-Rom, A, C". Then Save and Exit. Now you
may be able to boot your system from CD.

Hi

I've just purchased a second hand laptop and I wish to format the hard

disk
and install Win 98 SE

The laptop has a bay that holds either a floppy or CD drive, so I can't

have
both the floppy and CD drives connected simultaneously

When I boot up using a bootable Win 98 floppy, it refuses to load the CD
drivers because it detects there is no CD drive present

Is it possible to create a bootable Win 98 CD instead of a bootable

floppy?
If so, how is that done? I had a look on the Internet and created what I
thought was a bootable CD, but it doesn't work

I purchased the laptop from a company that was selling off their older

gear,
and it looks as though their IT department have got rid of the Add/Remove
programs icon in the Control Panel

Thanks

Pete

Get a boot disk for your version of Windows and www.bootdisk.com. With the
floppy drive inserted, boot to this disk. Partition and format the hard
drive, and do SYS C: to make it bootable. Copy the entire contents of the
boot floppy to the hard drive. Edit the BAT files (Autoexec.BAT, and there
may be one other) so that each reference to A: is changed to C:. Reboot to
the hard drive with the CD drive installed, and run the install. Be sure to
re-name AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS after the install finishes, or you
forever be booting to a start-up configuration. Don't delete them, as you
might want to boot to DOS with the CD drive inserted at some future date.
