Default What are 2 NICs on one computer good for ????

The title says it all.. nearly.

The real question
is how to get a laptop connected to a wireless nic on the
desktop computer, to access the wired network hooked
up to the second wired nic on the desktop computer ?

But any answer at all would be appreciated !!

One word.

Router.

They're really not very expensive.

2 nics on one pc are normally used if the pc in question is used as a
firewall (one nic for internal pc's and the other for going out to the
internet)
best way to connect your laptop is use a hub/router as the last poster
stated, you can pick up a nice little 5 port hub for like 30-40 bucks and
they are very handy.
