Windows ME suddenly will not shut down when "Shut Down" is the chosen option.

Is there a setting that somehow got corrupted that keeps
the PC from shutting itseld down when the "Shut Down"
Option is chosen. The PC reboots or Restarts in the same
way as if the "Restart" option was chosen.

Has this always happened or has this just recently started happening in
which case what changes did you make to your system just prior to this
problem starting? For example have you recently changed your sound card
or perhaps installed new video drivers?

Tracking down shutdown and power-off problems (they differ) can be
somewhat difficult but may I suggest that you start by having a look at MS
KB 273746 - "How to Troubleshoot Windows Me Shutdown Problems"
(http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=273746) and then move on to Jim

http://aumha.org/win4/a/shtdwnme.htm which cover this topic. Hopefully
you will find advice there that will help your resolve your problem.

If you can't find the cause of the problem you could always use System
Restore to roll your system back to before this problem began, provided
that is, that it was not more than a few days ago at most.

Pablo: I am having the same problem. WinME either will not
shut down when the "Shut Down" option is chosen or it will
reboot. Also, I find it rebooting on random. Finally,
when I try to "Restart", I get the error message "File
Name: VWIN23(05) Error:0E". I'll let you know if I find
anything out and would appreciate if you do the same.
