Default Start up problem - display.sys

Hi

I have a friend who has 2 computers, one running XP and the other ME.

She has managed to get into a situation where she can't start either. I know
very little about XP so I will look elsewhere for help on that. I know a
little more about ME and I have tried to get that computer started for her.
I have used my EBD and found 4 restore points that were marked as "Started"
but these did not work. Therefore, I tried to EXTRACT a RG*.CAB file, which
did extract the 3 files. This method was given to me by Mike Maltby on here
in May 2005 and I have used it several times, with success on different
computers when the EBD method failed.
However, on this occasion after trying either of the "restore" methods, I
get the following error message, after the initial ME splashscreen and
start-up options:

C:\WINDOWS\DISPLAY.SYS
Cannot set the code page in DISPLAY.SYS

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Craig

Look toward the bottom of the first page of results.....hopefully, one of
these will address your issue.
