Default Recording with mic not working, all else fine.

I was using win 95 and the souncard (aztech) worked fine, recording and all.

Then I upgraded to win 98, and recording doesn't work any more. The
microphone works, I can hear myself through the speakers when I talki in to
the mic. However, when I record from the mic to a wav.file in Cool Edit I get
nothing.

Also I cannot adjust any of the volume settings any more. I can listen to a
cd through the cd-drive, yet adjusting the volume, doesn't change anything.

What could this mean?

Do you have the mic plugged into the modem rather than the sound card?

Double click the speaker in the tray area. In the toolbar of the resulting
window, select options and properties. In the next window, mark the
Recording button, mark the microphone box in the window and OK. On the next
screen, make sure the select box is marked under microphone. If this
doesn't help, try this article:

How to Troubleshoot Microphone Issues [Q266677]

Regarding your sound, open the control panel to system, device manager and
see if there are entries for the sound card. If not, you will have to
locate the drivers and install them.
