Default no sound

I am a new computer user and have no sound at all coming
from my speakers. When I plug the speakers in, I get a
little static and that's it. Can you please advise on how
and what I can check or install?

You need to install the drivers for the sound system you
have. they should be on the cd or floppy disk that comes
with your sound card..
