Question Windows Media Player - No Sound

Hi, I have downloaded Windows Media Player. I tried to listen to a few mp3's on the net with no luck. My cd player works with no sound problems at all. Just whenever I try to listen from the net I get nothing except a static sound. Can anyone help??
Thanks
