Default Scandisk will not complete

Can someone offer any suggestions on what I may need to do to get scandisk to complete.
Have tried to run from Safemode, did not complete. I have unchecked all items from Startup from within Applications/System Tools/System Information/Software Environment/Startup Program. Then ToolsSystem configuration UtilityStartup tab. So there should not be anything else running but after 48 hours, scandisk has not completed.

thanks for any help you can provide. Becky

Thank you Michael, no I have not tried to boot from the startup disk and run. guess I'll give that a try. I'm to the point now that I have moved all my data files to my other physical drive and the next step is to reformat C and start over........Becky

Try without the surface scan first.

DOS Mode (from a ME-floppy disk boot) may be of some help.

Are you experiencing other problems ?

Another suggestion would be to try it under a CLEANBOOT procedure.
Gary S.Terhune wrote an excellent article on Clean Boot for the Win 98
Newsgroup. If interested you may find it at;

I'm on my Win 98 machine now, but if I recall, in Win Me, under
SELECTIVE STARTUP, you need to also check the vxd box .

Good Luck
