su error message
when my hard disk went out I took the slave disk (40gb) wiped it formatted it
and tried to reinstall the os from my install disk. I keep getting the set ver error message. there should not be a set version on the disk after formatting and nothing in the kb seems to apply. Is it possible for the set ver on the install disk to go bad? Any help is appreciated thanks |

What is the _exact_ SU error message you are seeing please.
The contents of mastered CDs don't change although they might become unreadable but then I would expect you to be seeing something very different than what you seem to be seeing. -- Mike Maltby doggydave wrote: when my hard disk went out I took the slave disk (40gb) wiped it formatted it and tried to reinstall the os from my install disk. I'm still a bit confused about your reference to set ver. Where/when do
you see this message? Let me try and get this straight in my mind. You removed the old primary disk and then using a boot floppy formatted your second, slave, hard disk and are now trying to install Win Me to this disk which is now the primary disk and see the error SU 995035. Did you first make the partition active using fdisk? If you haven't already done so may I suggest you check out the file CLEANHD.TXT which is in the Win 9x folder on the Win Me CD and also as KB271673 - "Windows Millennium Edition Cleanhd.txt File Contents" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=271673). See also KB255867 - "How to Use the Fdisk Tool and the Format Tool to Partition or Repartition a Hard Disk" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=255867). I mention this because SU995035 is a most unusual error and is telling me that there is something wrong with the setup files and I suspect that this could be because the drive isn't being properly located due possibly to no partition being marked as active. You might manage to find a bit more information by looking at the last few lines of the file setuplog.txt (and perhaps also detlog.txt) which are written to the hard disk during the install. -- Mike Maltby doggydave wrote: the message is su995035 i get it on trying to install win me. It is a maxtor disk and i used maxtor install and partitioning software named
max bkaster or something like that. I got it with the disk. I deleted all the partitions wiped it clean reinstalled its partitions reformated all partitions the disk software asks what i want to install has options for all wins up to xp. when i choose 98 it installs completely and works fine when i erase c by formatting and try to install me it gers a little way in aboyt 3_4 mins and stops with that error ode on a yellow pop up window. Rather than using maxblast you could always try following my suggestions,
read the KB articles I mentioned and use fdisk and format and then look for possible reasons for any setup errors in setuplog.txt and detlog.txt. -- Mike Maltby doggydave wrote: It is a maxtor disk and i used maxtor install and partitioning software named max bkaster or something like that.
