aaaWin98SE start up disk not recognizing ANY CD players
I have a Win98SE start up disk. I just want to have the start up disk
recognize my CD and then I can setup Windows OS. However no matter what CD player I try to use the start up disk always says "no cd found" even though CMOS sees it just fine. I even moved it onto other master\slave settings and cable connections. No joy. What in the world is the problem? If I can't see a CD player how else can I ever load the Windows CD operating system? |

It will not work with all, but most CD reading devices. Provide the make and model cdrom you have, or take that data to the manufacturers website to get an appropriate driver for an msdos environment. Ignore the reply about diversion to another post. The error message you provided indicates that the driver loaded, whereas the other post says otherwise. |

I also went to bootdisk.com and downloaded the Win98SE Startup disk. Even it
did not load the CD player! I will try finding a msdos driver like you mentioned but I have a feeling my problem goes beyond that due to a memory of this CDplayer working fine on other motherboards using Win98. I'll send update soon on this issue and resolve....... "Lil' Dave" wrote in message ... "AA" wrote in message ... I have a Win98SE start up disk. "Lil' Dave" is correct that Oakcdrom is not the best driver -- though I
really thought the problem lies in the boot disk itself. Some (specifically 11) of the well-working low-level drivers you can find in CAB-archive at my site, www.aha.ru/~mwz/files/cdr-sys.cab I prefer VIDE-CDD.SYS from this set instead of Oakcdrom.sys, but sometimes it does not work either, and it is need to try the others. -- Mikhail Zhilin http://www.aha.ru/~mwz Sorry, no technical support by e-mail. Should I be altering the config.sys file to point to the CD sys file I want
to try? "Mikhail Zhilin" wrote in message ... "Lil' Dave" is correct that Oakcdrom is not the best driver -- though I really thought the problem lies in the boot disk itself. Put VIDE-CDD.SYS (or other driver -- if vide-cdd.sys won't work either) to the root of the diskette, REM out the line with Oakcdrom.sys in Config.sys of the diskette, and type a line with VIDE-CDD.SYS (or other driver) below it, so these lines will be: [CD] device=himem.sys /testmemff REM device=oakcdrom.sys /D:mscd001 device=VIDE-CDD.SYS /D:mscd001 ..... more lines here .... -- Mikhail Zhilin http://www.aha.ru/~mwz Sorry, no technical support by e-mail.
