Default Scan Disk Problem

When I try to use Scandisk it says that there is another application
controlling the Hard Drive and to wait till it stops and try again. I have
waited for three days and it still has the message.
Also I cannot get the PC to boot in Safe Mode. F8, delete, escape and using
the control key won't start the Safe Mode. I can get the PC to go into Setup
with the F1 key but nothing seems to be wrong there. I used the Default
settings before Exiting the Setup.

I sent this to System Tools group as I thought it should have there in the
first place.
Sorry for the duplication but will be happy with an answer no matter where
it comes from.

Have you tried holding down F2 during bootup to get into Safe Mode?
Regards Mike.

I took the advice from another group to use my floppy start-up disk (saved
way back) and run the Scandisk in DOS mode. After about 3 hours of running,
there were 4 files that had problems and they were fixed. Now all is OK and
the PC is back to where it should be.
Thanks for all the help.

Go to diskeeper.com and download their trial copy of disk defragmenter. You
can run it no matter what else is running.
