Default ?? Upgrade to W98 to manage USB

Spent ten bucks (yard sale) on a beautiful old Thinkpad 755CX running W95
and NT. Would like to give it CDROM capability using a 4x4x6 burner that's
on hand.

In order to run the burner, UBS is required. I have a PCMCIA-USB card
available but understand that USB will not run on pre-W98 OS's.

Am I on the right track or should I stick with W95 and shop for an
parallel-eternal CDROM drive?

There is USB support in W95B and C; however, it is not too good (to see what
system you have, go to control panel, system, general tab). This is
somewhat moot in that the governing factor is what system the drive itself
requires. The problem with upgrading is that you probably need a special
W98 operating system designed especially for the ThinkPad. One of the MS
MVPs physically damaged an IBM laptop by installing a retail version of W98
on it.
