Exporer and kernel32 invalid page faults
I cant figure out what is causing this message, I get:
-------------------------------------------------------- EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module unknown at 0000:5f417abe. If the computer starts and I dont open anything/do anything, it wont show up, but as soon as i open any program, page or msconfig etc, it will come up. This happens it both normal and safe mode. Im thinking it might be the result of installing AOL v9.0 any suggestions would be appreciated. I looked in the knowledge base, there are similar prolems but non that acitally have the "module unknown at 0000:5f417abe." |

Exporer and kernel32 invalid page faults
Have a look here for possibilities:
http://www.colba.net/~hlebo49/errexplo.htm#ERRUNKNOWN Disregard the memory addresses in the error. The symptom you describe may be Explorer.exe (the shell) crashing and then reloading. This error has suddenly started appearing this past week, and is mentioned in a number of posts in this and other groups. Have you installed anything (programs, updates) just prior to this happening? What anti-virus are you using, and does it have the latest updates? Do your anti-virus or anti-spyware apps' log files show anything being removed or quarantined lately? Try running a repair on Internet Explorer: Click StartRun, type the following and click Enter, for IE5x: RUNDLL32 SETUPWBV.DLL,IE5Maintenance or this, if you have IE6x installed: RUNDLL32 SETUPWBV.DLL,IE6Maintenance Run the former first...if it says it can't find it, run the latter one, for IE6 instead. Choose the Repair option, and continue. If the repair says it cannot complete, or it does not fix the problem, reinstall Internet Explorer: Recovering From a Failed Internet Explorer Upgrade in Windows 98: http://tinyurl.com/r5ba Update your anti-virus app and then run a full-system virus scan. Use CWShredder, the CoolWeb removal tool, available he http://computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.html http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html http://aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.zip In addition, install Ad-Aware 6 free edition, start it, click its 'Check for Updates' link in the app to install updates, then use it to scan your system, and remove what it finds. Ad-Awa http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ Install, update and run SpyBot Search & Destroy, scan your system, and then remove the items in RED only. SpyBot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download What may help is this - Download, unzip, and run Hijack This from one of these locations: http://computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.html http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads...HijackThis.exe Unzip to a folder other than your Desktop or the Temp folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log somewhere you can find it (Desktop, My Documents, or similar). Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet. Copy the log files and paste them into a new post at one of these forums: http://forums.net-integration.net/ http://computercops.biz/forums.html http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showforum=30 http://tomcoyote.org/forums/ http://www.lavasoftsupport.com http://boards.cexx.org/ The folks there will tell you what to remove. Please also post back here with the log file, so we may see what is happening. A tutorial for using Hijack This is located he http://tomcoyote.com/hjt/ and an in-depth tutorial is he http://aumha.org/a/hjttutor.htm Please reply to this post with what you tried and what if anything worked or did not work. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Surge" wrote in message ... Exporer and kernel32 invalid page faults
First of all, thanks so much for the reply, I have been
doing what you said in the previous post and the problem has not appearead since. I first uninstalled the AOL version 9.0 which was the last thing that I installed before getting all these problems. Then I went to msconfig and removed all programs except scanreg and a program called memturbo to recover unused RAM. I ran Adaware and it found over 200 files, mostly powerscan, hotbar, new.net files and such. I removed the items, rean adaware again, if found more objects so i restarted and I havent seen the invalid page fault. I believe it was the items that adaware removed that was causing the error. Another interesting thing is that before Adaware, i tried the "RUNDLL32 SETUPWBV.DLL,IE6maintenance" and it would run saying it couldnt find the file, not after adaware i tried it again, and it didnt give me the error. Im also running spybot to see what else it catches, but It seems that the problem is fixed. Thanks again for you help, really appreciate it. Exporer and kernel32 invalid page faults
Thank you so much for the feedback....we are looking to narrow down the =
cause of these problems. BTW, get rid of MemTurbo....uninstall it from = Add\Remove Programs. =20 It is really no help at all, and can often make things worse. Please post back with any further info you find. Please look in the Ad-Aware folder (C:\Program Files\Ad-Aware 6, by = default). There should be a log file showing what was removed, in text format. The name will be something like this: adaware-logdate/time.txt Please email the logs, as attachments, from your last runs that removed = the baddies.
