Default Openning a port

I am trying to serve a game from a computer on my home network. The computer
is running Windows 98 se. I cannot seem to open a port so that clients can
log-on to my game. I think my ISP is blocking the ports. For example, I
disabled the software firewall and put the computer in the DMZ of my router
(temporarily). I then scanned the ports from ShieldsUp, and all the ports
were closed. Is there any way to open a port so that people outside of my
home nextwork can reach my game server?
