black screen at windows start
A friend brought her Mom's old HP to me to 'clean up'. I defragged, ran
Symantec Utilities and cleaned up a LOT of stuff, dumped a bunch of ..tmp, .old, etc. files. The only other thing I changed was the screen resolution. She had it set at 800 x 600, I changed it 1024 x 768 while I had it, but didn't' think to change it back. Everything ran fine for me. Her Mom called me today - when she boots up, the Win 98 boot screen is normal, but when Windows starts it looks weird. The screen is black except for a band running horizontally across the screen. Any ideas!? |

Boot to Safe Mode and set the screen resolution back to 640X480, then restart in
normal mode, and set it to 800X600. To boot to Safe Mode: -Start the computer and hold down the CTRL key till the Windows 98 Startup menu (boot menu) appears. -Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and press Enter. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Coyote" wrote in message ...
