Default Mail Utility in the Control Panel

I have had problems with my email, but now that it is
reasolved, the "Mail" utility in the control Panel does
not work. When I try to open it, I get a message
saying "You need more memory or system resources. Close
some windows and try again."

I get this message all the time, even when there are no
windows open. I use two different profiles, one for my
email system, and the other for my handheld device, and
often switch between the two profiles.

How can I get the "Mail" utility to work so I can connect
my handheld?
